The Mandalorian's Pedro Pascal Cast as Joel in the Last of Us Live-Action Adaptation


The live-action adaptation of The Last of Us has finally found its Joel, in a very familiar face. The HBO Max television series adaptation will be seeing The Mandalorian's Pedro Pascal in the role of Joel.

Pascal will be starring in the HBO Max series alongside Game of Thrones co-star Bella Ramsey. In the Game of Thrones series, she is known by fans as Lyanna Mormont. She will play the role of Lyanna Mormont.

The two Game of Thrones stars will be reuniting with showrunner Carolyn Strauss who also worked on Game of Thrones. She will be the executive producer for The Last of Us television series.

Pascal has become a major name in Hollywood. He has experience working for major franchises and companies. He has starred on HBO's Game of Thrones, Netflix's Narcos, DC's Wonder Woman 1984, and Disney+'s The Mandalorian.

Now, the actor will be getting into a new character under HBO's streaming service, HBO Max. This would mean that the actor has worked under three of the major streaming platforms.

Pascal will be playing the ‘tortured' version of Joel for the live-action adaptation of The Last of Us. In the full character description, it was mentioned that the actor is tormented by past trauma where he has to take a journey across pandemic-ravaged America, while protecting a girl [Ellie to be played by Ramsey].

TheLast of Us is a popular video game developed by Naughty Dog. The story takes in modern civilization where "the Infected" which can be considered as zombies in pop-culture has ravaged the world. Joel is a survivor who lost his daughter and was hired to smuggle Ellie out of an oppressive quarantine zone.

It all started as a small job for Joel but soon became a brutal and heart-wrenching journey. The two travel across the US, trying to survive from both the Infected and the human enemies.

The synopsis for The Last of Us live-adaptation is as follows:


Based on the critically acclaimed video game The Last of Us, developed by Naughty Dog exclusively for the PlayStation platforms, the story takes place twenty years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse across the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.

There is no confirmed date but given the date of the announcement, HBO Max's The Last of Us may be released in late 2021 or early 2022.
