Star Wars fans were beyond thrilled when it was finally announced this week that the upcoming animated series Star Wars: The Bad Batch will be getting a special release date of May the 4th. To those new to the franchise, May the 4th is a pun to the saga's iconic catchphrase "May the Force be with you" and the date has become significant to a lot of fans.
The Bad Batch — a unique squad of clones who vary genetically from their brothers in the Clone Army first appeared on Star Wars: The Clone Wars' grand finale and although it's yet to be confirmed, you could easily treat the show as a continuation of The Clone Wars.
The animated series will feature appearances from notable characters in the franchise and that includes Fennec Shand played by Ming Na-Wen who made her Star Wars debut in The Mandalorian's first season. The actress, who's a huge fan of the franchise has been vocal about her excitement about being part of the universe.
Taking to Twitter, the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Mulan star is once again gushing over The Bad Batch's May the 4th release date. She wrote: "Woah!! #TheBadBatch premieres May 4th!! I'm crying! Cannot wait to see it!" Check out her tweet below:
Officially set after the events of Revenge of the Sith, The Bad Batch could potentially offer fans an idea of what transpired following Order 66 which was orchestrated by Emperor Palpatine aka Darth Sidious. And although it's getting an animated treatment, people should not underestimate the project as it's almost guaranteed to set up the events of The Mandalorian and other upcoming projects under the Lucasfilm banner.
Star Wars: The Bad Batch will exclusively be streamed on Disney+.
