Is The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 Coming in November 2022?

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 1 concluded in a big way. The finale fit a lot of major reveals, revealing Gandalf and unmasking Sauron - yet they still found the time to make some special jewelry to save the elven race. These rings play an important part in J.R.R. Tolkien's lore, but there's plenty to content before they make use of them.

With Sauron back and his eyes set on Middle-Earth, there's a lot of tension building up, and now fans want to know when we will find the answers to the cliffhangers showrunners JD Payne and Patrick McKay laid out for us.

Back in November 2019, Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke confirmed to Deadline the renewal of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power for Season 2 during the company's holiday party at the H Club in Hollywood, so it's just a matter of time before the epic fantasy series continues on Amazon Prime Video.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2

The cast and crew of The Lord of the Rings: the Rings of Power returned to work in October 2022, however while that means that things are moving well forward, it could still be a while before Season 2 arrives.

The first season took 18 months to film and while that's was in part likely due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it's clear that the high production values would have affected the production schedule.

Head of Amazon Studios Jennifer Salke, said that they are not willing to rush.

Speaking to Variety, Salke said:

"We want the shortest time possible between seasons, but we want to keep the bar just as high. So it'll take what it takes but there's been some urgency around moving quickly, which is why these guys have been writing all through their hiatus. We're moving fast."

Based on this, it's likely that The Rings of Power Season 2 will not be released until late 2023 or later, but will most likely be out sometime in 2024. We will update you here with an exact release date once we get an official announcement from Amazon Studios.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2

Now that the identity of Sauron was revealed in the finale of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 1, fans should expect the iconic villain to have more presence in Season 2.

During an interview with ScreenRant, Charlie Vickers, who plays Sauron, talked about what future seasons of The Rings of Power hold for the chief villain of the series.

In elaborating on plans for the second season, Vickers said:

"We know Sauron takes on different shapes in this era. All I can say is maybe to that. Maybe we're going to do those things. I'm incredibly excited to explore him doing these things that we know he does. He has a sh-tload of rings to make, and he gets to go to Númenor, and he orchestrates the downfall of Númenor. Then he has to take another form and go and fight in the Battle of the Last Alliance. The battle at the end of the Second Age. [But] the showrunners have a really specific plan, and I don't know their plans as to how it'll unfold, but I loved playing him in this repentance stage. Whether the repentance is genuine or not is open to interpretation. But I think it's going to be really cool now that he's kind of out there. And it's like, I'm back. I've been lingering. I've been coming back very slowly. And now, thanks to Galadriel, I'm back. And I'm excited to play that."

Showrunners McKay and Payne also teased new additions to the cast, including Círdan, the Elven ring bearer.
