The Lord of the Rings: Arondir Actor Discusses Harrowing Rings of Power Tunnel Scene

We finally got to see the first two episodes of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and there is little doubt that people were terrified of one scene in particular. In the second episode, the elf Arondir tracked some orcs into an underground tunnel which eventually led him underwater. The sequence concludes with hands grabbing Arondir from behind.

So was it as terrifying to film the scene as it was to watch it? Ismael Cruz Cordova confirmed with Comicbook.com that the tunnel scene in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power was even scarier.

"It was more stressful in real life. It was incredible," Cordova said". The tunnels were built, I mean the whole structure, so a lot of the times you do see me go through the tunnel, there was all these moving parts that kept getting reconstituted, so the tunnels like could go forever. It was real dirt, they were very narrow, and then you had that sense of claustrophobia."

"But that's the thing, as you're saying, it is an elf, so I had to figure out how to move like an elf," he continued. "And there was, as you can tell, I was holding a torch for most of the time and moving myself with one arm and that was also very important, to keep that elven-ness, so working as an animal."

Cordova continued, "I was seeing how does a panther, a crocodile, beings that keep the relationship of their body as they go while doing this thing but keeping that stoic nature of the elf that is focused."

We're glad that Cordova made it through the scene. With that in mind, we can't wait to see Arondir in action again in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

The next episode of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will premiere on Amazon on Friday, September 9, 2022.
