The Last of Us Producer Elaborates on What Season 3 Beholds

The Last of Us Season 2 has yet to receive development updates, however, showrunner Neil Duckmann has already unveiled Season 3 plans ahead!

The Naughty Dog video game has become quite a buzz since its HBO debut, especially since its faithful adaptation entailed a greater promise from its showrunners on the future of the series.

The ‘video game curse’ was broken, considering Craig Mazin and Druckmann were able to translate the video game into the Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey-led series while managing to enhance its storytelling with a few tweaks here and there.

Fans of the video game are well aware that the series only extends up to Part II, which implies The Last of Us ends with Season 2.

On the contrary, though, Druckmann insisted that the series could easily be expounded on past Season 3.

“As we’re writing [the game], we can kind of like go back in time, and adjust things early on, and then jump around.” Druckmann said in an interview with Kinda Funny.

“So, once we know where the story’s going, we could work backwards from there, and lay a lot of setups, and track towards that ending.”

Now, since Mazin and Druckmann have been actively involved in seeking more stories to expand on in the live adaptation, The Last of Us Season 3 is looking as promising as ever!

“Because we’re making the show, we know Left Behind, we know Last of Us Part II,” Druckmann continued, “We could have Marlene talk about Riley early on. We know where a lot of Season 2 and 3 will go.”

The show co-creator confirmed that some of the things they failed to involve in the video game will show up sooner or later in the HBO series, instead, including their more elaborate plan on what Jackson is made of.

“We ran out of time and money [when] we wanted to go into Jackson. There’s all this concept art because that’s what we originally wanted to do,” Druckmann added.

“It makes sense [now] to go into Jackson. It makes sense to show Shimmer and to show like, some of their locations from Last of Us Part II.”

Recently speaking with Deadline, Mazin pointed out the long awaited update in the making: “Our plan is to do [The Last of Us] not just for one more season. We should be around for a while.”
