There is little doubt that Kathleen was one of the most intriguing characters in HBO's The Last of Us live-action adaptation although she did not appear in the original Naughty Dog games. Still, that hasn't stopped people, including Melanie Lynskey herself, from hoping that the character will get her own show. So is it actually happening? Lynskey has just clarified her comments on Kathleen's possible spin-off series.

Melanie Lynskey recently spoke to Variety when she admitted that she is ready to reprise her role as Kathleen. “If they wanted to go back and do an origin story, I would be there for it,” Lynskey had said. “The story of how this woman got into this crazy position would be really interesting.”

But does this mean that HBO is already developing a spin-off show focusing on Kathleen? Several enthusiastic fans have reached out to Melanie Lynskey about the possibility and the Yellowjackets actor had to clarify her comments (via Twitter).

"No!! It is a very misleading headline! A sweet person on a press line asked would I do an origin story for her, and what am I going to do,say no? I said sure of course! I’d do anything Craig Mazin asked me to do, is the answer. I certainly didn’t 'pitch' this idea how mortifying," Lynskey wrote.

Although she didn't "pitch" the idea itself, most fans are open to the idea of learning more about Kathleen after what happened in The Last of Us.

For now, there haven't been any updates on possible The Last of Us spin-off shows, whether they are about Kathleen or any other character who appeared in the series. However, the success of the main show could push HBO to come up with something before the premiere of The Last of Us Season 2. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.

All nine episodes of The Last of Us Season 1 are now streaming on HBO Max.
