The Last of Us Director Teases There Could be a Part III

It's been years of waiting, but fans are finally going to get their hands on The Last of Us Part II next week. While some people are unsure of how the second game is going to end, director Neil Druckmann teases that there could be a third game in the works down the line.

Talking to GQ about what to do next after the release of Part II, Druckmann commented:

"As you start wrapping things up, creatively there are fewer and fewer responsibilities and my mind can't help but think about the next thing… So, yeah, the next thing could be a Part III, the next thing could be some new IP."

If anything, Druckmann's work on The Last of Us isn't going to end with the release of TLOU Part II. Druckmann is also attached to work on HBO's series adaptation of The Last of Us, and I assume he's going to be working very closely with showrunner Craig Mazin. Then again, we don't know how deep his involvement with the series really is, so he could be free to work on something entirely different.

For now, I think Naughty Dog just needs to wait and see what the reception of The Last of Us Part II will be. While there are some toxic comments from people who've read the leaks, I have a feeling it's all just coming from a place of sexism or homophobia—and that's the part of the fanbase you honestly don't want to give any power to.

The Last of Us Part II comes out on June 19.
