Episode 19 of The Eminence in Shadow sheds some light on Iris' character and her hunt for excellence from a young age.
As the preparations for the final battle continue, Beatrix surprises everyone by saying that Cid's strength and potential stood out to her more than anything else in the festival.
Remember that so far, Cid has hidden under the disguise of Mundane Mann, hiding his true abilities.
Elsewhere, Perv Asshat continues drugging Raphael Oriana, Rose's father.
Asshat plans to use Raphael to achieve his goals, install a puppet on the throne, and further the Cult's aspirations.
Iris is ready to face Mundane Mann, knowing that her opponent is stronger than he looks.
Despite her preparations, a disguised Cid defeats her, becoming the unlikely champion.
To shake things further, Rose finally shows up. Instead of attacking Asshat immediately, she kills her own father.
Before Asshat can fully grasp what is happening, Mundane Mann reveals himself to be Shadow, and urges Rose to run instead of die there.
At that point, Beatrix attacks him, setting the stage for an explosive finale.
