There are already several upcoming Shonen Jump anime adaptations, and the latest one has just been confirmed. Recently, The Elusive Samurai anime was made official, and it was revealed via the show’s newly launched website and Twitter account.

The announcement was made with the release of the first teaser visual which featured the protagonist, Hojo Tokiyuki.

A short video announcing the anime was also released, revealing several details about the show, including the anime studio that was tapped to make it.

While it may not seem like a huge series outside Japan, especially when compared with the likes of Jujutsu Kaisen and Mashle, The Elusive Samurai is one of Weekly Shonen Jump’s core titles.

The series started serialization back in January 2021, and it has since become a mainstay in Shueisha’s flagship magazine.

However, this should come as no surprise given that it’s written by Yusei Matsui, the creator of Assassination Classroom.

It’s fair to say that Assassination Classroom is one of the biggest Shonen Jump titles from the last decade as the manga has well over 20 million copies sold.

Though when it comes to the story, Assassination Classroom is pretty far from The Elusive Samurai.

After all, while Assassination Classroom is a sci-fi work, The Elusive Samurai is a historical manga series that’s set in 1300s Japan.

Specifically, it follows Hojo Tokiyuki, a boy who goes on the run after his family was overthrown by the Ashikaga Takauji, the founder of the Ashikaga Shogunate.

Hojo’s goal is to seek revenge for his family, though his only real weapon is his superhuman ability to hide and flee from danger.

The Elusive Samurai Anime Studio, Release Date

The upcoming anime was revealed with a new teaser visual that highlights the protagonist, Hojo.

It also features a beautiful folding screen in the background which echoes the medieval Japanese art style of the manga.

While the teaser visual gave us an idea of what to expect when it comes to visuals, the announcement video did not contain any new footage. This makes sense given that the series is still very early in production.

What we do know is that the anime will be made by CloverWorks, the studio behind hits such as My Dress-Up Darling, Bocchi the Rock!, and Spy x Family (at least half of it).

For now, there’s no word yet on when the anime will be released. But in the meantime, you can read the manga in English for free via Manga Plus and Viz Media’s Shonen Jump app.
