The Boys is one of Amazon's hit series, and it was renewed for a fourth season right in the middle of season three last year. It has been over a year since the finale of Season 3, and fans are wondering when the fourth season will be released. Here's what we know about The Boys Season 4 so far.
The Boys Season 4 Release Date: When Will the Season Come Out?
As of writing, there is no official release date yet for The Boys Season 4. Showrunner Eric Kripke posted on X that The Boys Season 4 will only be released when the Writers Guild of America strike ends.
When a fan asked why this is so even though the season had already wrapped filming, Kripke responded:
So, we could not expect The Boys Season 4 to come anytime soon, but at least we have its spin-off, Gen V, to look forward to.
The Boys Season 4 Cast: Who Are the Actors Included in the Series?
Many of the cast members from the previous seasons will be returning in The Boys Season 4. The returning cast members include:
- Karl Urban as Billy Butcher
- Jack Quaid as Hughie Campbell
- Anthony Starr as John/Homelander
- Erin Moriarty as Annie January/Starlight
- Jessie T. Usher as Reggie Franklin/A-Train
- Laz Alonso as Mother’s Milk/MM
- Chace Crawford as Kevin Moskowitz/The Deep
- Tomer Capon as Serge/Frenchie
- Karan Fukuhara as Kimiko Miyashiro/The Female
- Colby Minifie as Ashley Barrett
- Claudia Doumit as Victoria Neuman
- Cameron Crovetti as Ryan Butcher
- Simon Pegg as Hugh Campbell Sr.
Nathan Mitchell will be returning in Season 4 as a new version of Black Noir. Jensen Ackles is expected to return in The Boys Season 4 too. Dominique McElligott might not be returning as Queen Maeve in Season 4 following her character's Season 3 finale exit.
The new cast members of the series include Susan Heyward as Sister Sage, Valorie Curry as Firecracker, Rosemarie DeWitt as Hughie's mom, Rob Benedict, Elliot Knight, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
The Boys Season 4 Plot: What Will the Fourth Season Be About?
Showrunner Eric Kripke said that The Boys Season 4 will focus on Butcher and Homelander's fight over Ryan. Kripke said (via Collider):
"Both Butcher and Homelander have very good reasons to fight over Ryan, because the stakes could not be higher. If Ryan goes Homelander's way and then there's two Homelanders in the world, then that's a nightmare for the planet. If Butcher can get Ryan into the light, then that's probably actually the best weapon they have against Homelander. It's always been a show about family, and so much of Season 3 was about fathers, so I think it makes sense that Season 4 is about sons."
Hughie and the team will likely be dealing with Victoria Neuman too, now that she's on the path to becoming the next Vice President of the United States.
Additionally, we would likely get more ideas about what else could happen in Season 4 through The Boys spin-off, Gen V.
According to actress Claudia Doumit, Gen V lays a lot of the “groundwork” and “foundations” for The Boys Season 4. Doumit said:
"It was great to shoot Gen V because they tee up a lot of stuff that's going to happen in season 4 for The Boys. Gen V lays a lot of the groundwork and a lot of the foundations that season 4 will be built on for The Boys. So, watch it because it gives you a lot of information."
Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon and MGM Studios, also said that “there are definitely some crossovers, and Gen V pays off some of the direction of where we're going in season 4 of The Boys in great ways.”
