Homelander is more dangerous than ever, according to the full trailer for The Boys Season 3 on Prime Video, but what exactly is wrong with him?

The Boys Season 3 trailer shows a 'broken' Homelander

Even on his best days, Vought Corporation's poster boy isn't always psychologically sound. However, moving into The Boys Season 3, Homelander (Antony Starr) isn't his usual megalomaniac self.

"There is something wrong with Homelander," Starlight (Erin Moriarty) says over the phone. The rest of The Boys Season 3 trailer supports this assertion, as viewers are subjected to Homelander's far-off expression, forced laugh, and cracked voice, all of which indicate that something is really wrong.

In Season 2, Homelander falls in love with the dashing new feminist hero Stormfront (Aya Cash), only to realize that she is an ancient secret Nazi. Homelander was willing to overlook that serious flaw for his fellow Seven teammates to beat Stormfront, exposing her as a fascist and causing a public relations catastrophe for the country's favorite red, white, and blue crimefighter.

Why is Homelander more disturbing in The Boys Season 3?

It's important to plot how Homelander's condition changed from the beginning of Season 1 to the end of Season 2 to understand why he's so different in The Boys Season 3. Homelander had everything he wanted at the start of The Boys Season 2, including unrestricted access to his son Ryan (Cameron Crovetti) and an apparently untouchable public image.

Yet, by the end of the season, Homelander has been blackmailed by Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott) with video footage of his role in the Transoceanic flight 37 crash and has been forced to hand over control of the Seven to Queen Maeve and Starlight give up Ryan to his arch-enemy Billy Butcher (Karl Urban), and watch his turbulent lover Stormfront dismembered in front of him.

Homelander had lost control over the Seven, his son, at the end of The Boys season 2, and his impenetrable ego had been outwitted. These terrible setbacks changed everything Homelander believed about himself and took away all he cared about, psychologically hurting him, which is why he behaves so differently in The Boys Season 3 trailer as a guy with nothing left to lose.

How Homelander's issues will affect The Boys in Season 3

Homelander will have to deal with the public ramifications of his relationship with Stormfront in The Boys season 3, as depicted in the Prime Video trailer, and pretend to be apologetic for his role. Furthermore, Homelander will ultimately learn that Billy Butcher has the ability to temporarily acquire superpowers, and Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) may be able to assist Butcher's team.

As a result, Homelander might eventually reach his breaking point and start hunting down anybody he perceives as a threat, no matter the consequences. That's not even taking into account the fact that Homelander will be confronted with daily reminders of his humiliating setback, which will likely wreak havoc on his fragile ego and push him closer to the edge.

This is already evident in The Boys Season 3 trailer, where he begins talking to himself in the mirror and hallucinating.

Finally, the trailer concludes with our best look yet at Soldier Boy. We are beyond excited for The Boys Season 3 to premiere on June 3!
