The Batman: Zoe Kravitz Explains Why Her Catwoman is Different

It has been a long wait but The Batman is finally out and we just got to meet the new Catwoman played by Zoe Kravitz. Not surprisingly, fans are loving the latest version of Selina Kyle and the role she plays in the Matt Reeves movie. So why exactly is this new Catwoman so different from the rest? Kravitz offered an interesting explanation of why her character truly stands out.

Catwoman is undoubtedly one of the most popular femme fatales in the world right now so it's no surprise that there have been so many incarnations of the character in films and TV shows. But according to Zoe Kravitz, people will actually get to learn more about Selina Kyle in The Batman.

"I don't think we've ever had an opportunity to really understand who Selina is and where she comes from and why she is the way she is," Kravitz said when she took part in Entertainment Weekly's Around the Table.

"I think, often times, in these kinds of films, the female characters are one-dimensional or kind of there to serve sex appeal. And I was really impressed and excited by what Matt had written in the script, seeing a tortured person who's really trying to liberate herself from a lot of trauma," she continued. Even the idea of understanding her connection with these cats, her feeling like a stray herself, and taking in these strays, it's really exciting."

It's great to know that Matt Reeves truly took the time to understand Catwoman and made sure the character is more than just a pretty face in the movie. With that in mind, we're hoping Zoe Kravitz will continue to play Selina in the sequel despite what happened when The Batman concluded.

The Batman is now screening in theaters worldwide.
