It's official: Dylan O'Brien will not be returning as Stiles Stilinski in the Teen Wolf revival movie. But why did the Maze Runner star decide against revisiting the role that made him famous? O'Brien admitted that it was a difficult decision for him to decline the offer to return in the film!
When the Teen Wolf movie was announced, fans were expecting to see Dylan O'Brien being reunited with his previous co-stars. After all, the tease featured Stiles' Jeep and it seemed like a done deal. However, O'Brien's name was left out when the official returning cast list was confirmed.
So what happened to Stiles? Dylan O'Brien confirmed with Variety that he has decided against returning for the Teen Wolf film. However, it wasn't an easy choice for him.
“It was a difficult decision. A lot went into it,” O’Brien said. “The show couldn’t be more dear to me. It was the first thing I ever did I and so many people there are extremely dear to me. It was something I was trying to make work but it all happened very fast. We didn’t really know that it was happening and they kind of just threw it at us a little bit, which is fine because we all love the show. We were trying to figure it out.”
Although it was an exciting possibility, O'Brien decided that it wouldn't work for him because of one major reason.
“Ultimately, I just decided it was left in a really good place for me and I still want to leave it there. I wish them well and I’m going to watch it the first night it comes out. I hope it f-cking kicks ass, but I’m not going to be in it,” he said.
Sadly, we won't get to see more of Stiles in the movie but there is a huge possibility that the film will explain what happened to the character.
