Fans are about to see different apocalyptic stories in the upcoming The Walking Dead spinoff series Tales of the Walking Dead. As the six-episode anthology series will explore different timelines, there will be as far as 35 years after the original series began.

Each Tales of the Walking Dead episode will feature different characters and storylines. Now, showrunner Channing Powell teased the spinoff could go in different directions and periods. So, what will be the difference between these two shows?

Tales of the Walking Dead Timeline

In an interview with Collider, Powell revealed each episode of Tales of the Walking Dead would feature different stories.

It would explore plotlines that the mother show didn’t manage to do so, like the stories in different parts of the U.S. when the apocalypse began.

Unlike TWD, which only sticks to one storyline, Tales of the Walking Dead can go anywhere as the writers, please.

He said,

"They're not... No, they take place over... tentatively 35 years into the future. Don't quote me on that, Scott [Gimple] will kill me. But, no, we wanted to go in every direction of the United States that we could go in, and every timeline we could go in."

Tales of the Walking Dead Cast and Their Roles

According to Screen Rant, the anthology series will introduce new characters to the TWD world. However, fans may also see a glimpse of some of the most familiar stars, like Samantha Morton’s famous role as the villain Alpha.

Though each episode's major details and characters are yet to be revealed, it has been known that Olivia Munn, Terry Crews and Daniella Pineda will join the series.

Ramirez, Crews and Morton’s Roles in Tales of the Walking Dead

Ramirez, Crews and Morton will be seen in three different episodes.

In an interview, Ramirez teased his episode would be horror and suspense. Without giving too much, he revealed his role would be Eric, along with Pineda’s Idalia.

“[They] have been going through pure survival mode for years already, and they wind up in this location,” he said. “It’s just a very beautiful, human story of two people.”

Alternatively, Crews will play the doomsday prepper, Joe, with Munn’s Evie.

“I always felt like comedy and horror are two sides of the same coin. I want to go back to 1968 when Night of the Living Dead hit the world,” he stated. “It changed my life forever. The first time I saw a Black hero. It was unprecedented, it was controversial, and also the social commentary changed the game.”

Talking about his episode, he hinted that, “It was so good, so scary; I still am having nightmares.”

Lastly, Morton teased her episode has a special meaning to fans who have watched her role as Alpha in TWD.

“I’m not going to say you’re not going to get to see Alpha but it’s about Dee and it’s about [her daughter] Lydia,” she teased.

Tales of the Walking Dead will premiere on August 14.
