Taika Waititi Shares Promising Update on His Star Wars Film

There is little doubt that fans are already hyped up for Taika Waititi's Star Wars film. After all, the filmmaker has already proven that he has a knack for making funny, smart, and action-packed movies, and it's something that the franchise truly needs right now. So what can we expect from the highly anticipated project? Waititi has shared an update on his movie and admits he is working to make sure it "feels like a Star Wars film!"

Back in 2020, it was confirmed that Taika Waititi will write and direct an upcoming Star Wars movie. Not surprisingly, the news had people celebrating since Waititi had previously helmed an episode of The Mandalorian. However, there haven't been any updates on the project since then.

Luckily, Waititi recently opened up about his upcoming movie, admitting that it is still in early development.

"That's yet to be seen. I don't know. I'm still writing," Waititi told Screenrant. "I'm still coming up with the ideas and storylining it and just wanted to make sure that it feels like a Star Wars film."

He continued, "Because, I could say, 'Oh yeah, we'll just write any old thing and set in space and then put Star Wars on the front.' But it wouldn't be a Star Wars film without certain elements and a certain treatment, so I've just got to make sure that it stays within that wheelhouse."

It's understandable that Waititi is being careful about the project. After all, Star Wars is a huge franchise with a fandom that has high expectations. There is little doubt that Waititi will be able to pull it off and we're ready to wait a little longer to give him time to make it perfect.

In the meantime, Taika Waititi's latest project Thor: Love and Thunder is set to premiere in theaters on July 8, 2022.
