According to Variety, Netflix has officially given Sweet Magnolias Season 3 the go signal.

It was almost as though it was a foregone conclusion. The show landed at No. 1 on Netflix's Top 10 list for the U.S. just a few days after Season 2's release. Its popularity remained consistent in the weeks that followed, with a similar audience to Virgin River, another romance-heavy, female-focused Netflix drama.

Even with the renewal, the writers for Sweet Magnolias will require some time to complete the scripts. The filming will last three to four months. Sweet Magnolias Season 3 is unlikely to premiere until spring 2023 at the earliest.

Sweet Magnolias Season 3 cast

JoAnna Garcia Swisher as Maddie Townsend, a former stay-at-home mom who helps run the Corner Spa; Brooke Elliott as Dana Sue Sullivan, the head chef at Sullivans; and Heather Headley as Helen Decatur, an accomplished attorney, are the three main characters in Sweet Magnolias.

The cast members who play their family, friends, romantic interests, business associates, and fellow Serenity townpeople are likely to join the core trio.

Sweet Magnolias Season 3 plot

According to Swisher's prediction, the next season will likely continue up just where Season 2 left off.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, she revealed that it will most likely begin "close to where we left off, 'cause I don't think you can come back months later and say, 'Whatever happened with Helen?' and 'Is Justin in jail?' Why not go big or go home?"

If she's correct, Sweet Magnolias Season 3 will answer all of the main questions raised by the Season 2 finale's cliffhanger ending.

Will Helen, for example, accept Ryan's proposal or pursue Erik further? While fans have begun to take sides, Heather Headley tells TVLine that she sees it "going either way," especially given her past relationships with both guys.

And don’t forget Cal was fired from school because of his previous anger management issues, some of which he had previously confessed to Maddie. Cal, however, punches up a fan who shows up tat Sullivan's and acts threateningly. As a stunned Maddie watches, he is detained and hauled away by the cops.

Dana Sue receives an unexpectedly large inheritance from Miss Francis, a Serenity elder who died. However, during the wake, an unknown woman informs Annie that her mother is a "life ruiner," and the woman is later caught on video slashing the tires of Sullivan's van.

Maddie and Helen know her when they see the footage. "She's back," they say ominously.

This mystery woman appears to be connected to Miss Francis and is well-known to her friends. Perhaps she is a niece or goddaughter who believes she should have received the fortune. We'll have to wait and see when Sweet Magnolias Season 3 premieres on Netflix.
