Netflix's Hit K-Drama Sweet Home Renewed For Seasons 2 and 3


Netflix has officially renewed its hit Korean drama Sweet Home for two more seasons. On Wednesday, June 15, the company confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that the popular K-drama has been renewed for Seasons 2 and 3, which will be produced back-to-back, with Season 1 director Lee Eung-bok returning to direct.

“In these new seasons, Sweet Home will take on a larger scale with an expanded storyline and cast,” the streaming giant said in a statement.

In 2020, Sweet Home was the first ever South Korean series to enter the streamer's Top 10 list in the United States, peaking top 3. It later claimed the top spot in eight global regions and was within the Top 10 in 42 regions.

A teaser confirming the production for Sweet Home Seasons 2 and 3 has been shared on social media:

Released on Netflix in December 2020, Sweet Home is based on the Naver webtoon of the same title by Kim Carnby and Hwang Young-cha. If you're not familiar with this apocalyptic K-drama, here's an official synopsis by Netflix: "As humans turn into savage monsters, one troubled teenager and his neighbours fight to survive and to hold onto their humanity."

Sweet Home's leads Song Kang and Lee Jin-uk, will return for the upcoming seasons, along with Lee Si-young, Ko Min-si, Park Kyu-young. Newcomers to the cast of the show include Yoo Oh-seong, Oh Jung-se, Kim Moo-yeol and Jung Jin-young.

“Season 2 will include a new setting,” says Lee Eung-bok. “I believe the technical details we couldn’t refine in Season 1 will be honed in Season 2,” he added.

Netflix has renewed a bunch of its original Asian shows lately, including All of Us Are Dead, Squid Game, Alice in Borderland, and the 2021 hit reality show Single's Inferno among many others.
