Super Mario Maker 2 Makes The Legend of Zelda's Link Playable in New Update

Super Mario Maker 2 is one of the many games that has made the Nintendo Switch a must-buy, whilst also making the Nintendo Wii U more obsolete than it already is. No joke, once they port those Legend of Zelda HD remasters, The Wonderful 101, and Super Mario 3D World, there will be no reason to own that console. Speaking of Zelda, Link is coming to Super Mario Maker 2 this month in a free update.

It's not as simple as picking Link from the character selection menu sadly. If fans place the new Master Sword power-up and have Mario take it, the Italian plumber transforms into the legendary elf-eared hero. The change isn't just cosmetic either since this power-up also has Link use his sword, bombs, and bow-and-arrow, the latter of which can be shot in multiple directions. Link can also use a charged dash, similar to the Pegasus Boots he gets in A Link to the Past.

Unfortunately, Link can only be used in the Super Mario Bros. levels of Super Mario Maker 2. If you were hoping to see Link in the styles of Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World, New Super Mario Bros., and Super Mario 3D Land, you're out of luck. While those levels do get some new updates as well, the lack of Link will disappoint a lot of people.

That being said, expect a lot of awesome Legend of Zelda-themed levels to hit Super Mario Maker 2 soon. This could be the Legend of Zelda II remake fans have been wanting for such a long time but better. Hopefully, they add characters like Samus from Metroid soon.

Super Mario Maker 2 is available now on Nintendo Switch. This Super Mario Maker 2 Link update comes out on December 5.
