Heads up, gamers! A new classic video game is getting its own movie adaptation as Sega's Streets of Rage finds Lionsgate as its home after the major studio picks it up and not only that, the film also lands John Wick creator Derek Kolstad to pen the screenplay and make it happen.
A popular game from the '90s, Streets of Rage from Sega took the gamers into an experience of combat inspired from the action movies from the '80s and '90s. It's a "beat 'em up" game and finally, it will be having its own movie adaptation on Lionsgate in a report from Deadline.
In the same report, it is also revealed that Derek Kolstad will be the scribe of the upcoming Streets of Rage movie adaptation. Kolstad is no stranger when it comes to these kinds of action films given his extensive experience as the franchise creator of John Wick.
Kolstad shared in a statement, “When Dmitri first mentioned the idea of cracking a Streets of Rage movie, I was so immediately freaking in. And to play with Sega? The 10-year-old me is still grinning.”
Kolstad will also produce Streets of Rage alongside Sega's very own Toru Nakahara. Also producing are Dmitri M. Johnson, Timothy I. Stevenson and Dan Jevons from dj2 Entertainment, and Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Tony Shaw from Escape Artists.

Toku Nakahara of Sega who produced Sonic the Hedgehog shares his excitement on the project, “Lionsgate is one of the most dynamic studios in the entertainment industry today. We look forward to working with them, Derek and our all-star producers to bring this compelling IP to life.”
Under Lionsgate, overseeing Streets of Rage movie will be Brady Fujikawa and Jon Humphrey, while under Sega, Shuji Utsumi and Toku Nakahara will do the same. As for dj2 Entertainment, it will be Dmitri M. Johnson, and for Escape Artists, it will be Tony Shaw.
Streets of Rage is a '90s side-scrolling beat 'em up video game which follows various ex-police vigilantes fighting off a crime syndicate in a huge American city where the government is corrupt as well. Sega released the first three games of the franchise in the '90s, and the fourth came out in 2020.
Still in the early stages of production, Streets of Rage has no release date yet.
