Star Wars Theory Reveals Heartbreaking Truth About Obi-Wan and Anakin

The confrontation between Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor) and his former Padawan Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen) on the lava planet of Mustafar might be heartbreaking on its own, however, it seems like a new theory is adding another layer of heartache to that pivotal moment between Obi-Wan and Anakin in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.

According to a Star Wars fan on Reddit, Obi-Wan already knew that Anakin was a lost cause long before their battle on Mustafar. Taking note of the Mortis arc in The Clone Wars, Redditor u/FlavortownAbbey, reminds fans how Obi-Wan stands to watch over Anakin as he witnesses a vision of his turn towards the Dark Side. Sure, Obi-Wan, Anakin, and Ahsoka may appear to have their memory wiped at the end of the Mortis arc in The Clone Wars, however, the Redditor suggests that Obi-Wan may not have forgotten as easily as others.

Obi-Wan must have known – if not after the Mortis arc, then before it. The Jedi Knight has saved Anakin too many times, so much so that he makes the decision to leave his Padawan to die on Mustafar. Obi-Wan could have dragged Anakin out of the lava, talked to him, and helped him back to the light. But he didn't. Because Obi-Wan already knew that it was impossible for him to help Anakin any further.

This theory adds a whole lot of weight to the Revenge of the Sith. What do you think? Could Obi-Wan have known Anakin's future as Darth Vader? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section below.
