Star Wars: The Acolyte Reportedly Delays Filming to Later This Year

Thanks to the existence of Disney+, the Star Wars franchise is expanding bigger than ever before as they are working on several live-action TV shows featuring legacy characters, new characters in a familiar era, and soon, an era that has never been explored before like in The Acolyte, which was announced during the Disney Investors Day back in 2020.

For now, we haven't heard many details about the project although there have been reports that the series is set to begin filming this year. Now, a new report has emerged which suggests that we still have to wait a bit longer for the series.

According to The Illuminerdi, The Acolyte is now scheduled to begin filming in October later this year and is expected to last until May 2023. It was originally supposed to start production early this year before the change.

We do have to take note that this report hasn't been confirmed by Lucasfilm nor reported by the major trades so we have to take it with a grain of salt although the outlet has been mostly reputable when it comes to their exclusive scoops.

In addition, the report also indicated that the series is currently casting two roles: Paul and Miri. There are no details regarding Paul except that they are looking for a Caucasian man in his 50s and it will be a series regular role for one season.

Meanwhile, they are looking to cast a young Black girl around 8 to 10 years old for the role of Miri who is being described as a Lead Guest Star and it also seems that they are also looking for identical twins.

While it might be disappointing to hear that The Acolyte has moved its production date to later this year, at least it is still moving forward and the project has been canceled or put on hold.

However, it also means that it will take more time before its eventual premiere. We should be hearing more updates about this show soon as it is moving towards the production phase.

The series, which hails from Russian Doll co-creator Leslye Headland, is described as "a mystery-thriller that will take the audience into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark side powers in the final days of the High Republic era." Amandla Stenberg has been cast to star in the series.
