We can still remember how exciting it was when Hayden Christensen was confirmed to reprise his role as Darth Vader in Obi-Wan Kenobi. But what did it take to convince the Revenge of the Sith actor to return to the Star Wars Universe? Christensen confirms that it was an easy decision to make.
Hayden Christensen Discusses Why He Agreed To Return As Darth Vader
Hayden Christensen recently took part in Variety's Actors on Actors where he had an awesome conversation with Andor star Diego Luna. During the exchange, Luna asked Christensen what made him decide to join Obi-Wan Kenobi.
"Just the nature of getting the invitation," Christensen admitted.
"Star Wars holds a very special place in my heart," he added. "I enjoyed getting to go back to being a fan again and just watching these stories like everyone else."
Still, he admitted that he wanted to be part of the Star Wars Universe all over again.
"There was a part of me that missed it, too. So when I got the call, it was a very easy decision," Christensen confessed. He also revealed that the idea of reuniting with Ewan McGregor was another factor.
"The fact that it was the Obi-Wan show with Ewan McGregor, who is a good friend of mine, and that I’d get to swing a lightsaber with him again, it was a thrilling invitation," Christensen said. He also pointed out that Deborah Chow made it easy to seal the deal.
"The director, Deborah Chow, is so articulate about what Star Wars is," he stated.
"She understands these characters so well. So I just felt like I was in good hands with her, and I was excited to get to do more with the character," Christensen concluded.
We totally understand where Hayden Christensen is coming from and we're glad he agreed to work on Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Christensen returns as Darth Vader in Ahsoka, which premieres on Disney+ on August 23, 2023.
