Star Trek: Wil Wheaton Breaks Silence on His Absence in Picard Season 3's TNG Reunion

Recently, we learned that the main cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation is reuniting in the third season of Star Trek: Picard which made a lot of fans excited to see them all together again 20 years after Star Trek: Nemesis was released. However, one name that was notably absent in the list is Wil Wheaton, who played Wesley Crusher. While there was no reason cited behind his absence, the actor did share his reaction on the upcoming reunion of his former castmates.

In a recent post that he wrote on his website, Wheaton expressed his excitement on the upcoming reunion of The Next Generation cast and admitted that he is surprised that there are some fans who are disappointed about his absence. However, he didn't get to explain why he wasn't able to be part of the reunion although he implied that his absence wasn't his idea.

"I have been reading the Internet, as you do, and I see a lot of my fellow nerds are as excited to see the TNG cast back together as I am," Wheaton wrote. "I’ve also seen a LOT of people — like, way more than I ever would have imagined –expressing dismay that Wesley isn’t part of it. I share some of your sadness, for my own reasons, but I choose to focus instead on how special it’s going to be to see my family back together again, and how wonderful it’s going to be to talk with them about it in the Ready Room."

While he might be absent in the upcoming third season of Picard, he currently serves as the host of The Ready Room, a Star Trek recap show on Facebook Live where he interviews the cast and crew discussing the recent episode. As he mentioned, he could talk about the reunion during his show and, in some ways, he is still not left out despite not being able to reprise his role.

However, even though there are some fans who are disappointed about Wheaton's absence, Wesley Crusher has always been an unpopular character among Star Trek fans which most likely explains why the actor is surprised with some of the reactions on his absence. Of course, it would still be interesting to see where he is now after all these years. Based on his post, it sounds like Wheaton wasn't really upset about not being invited to be part of the third season and he is also excited to see his former castmates reuniting again just like us.
