Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Poster Reveals Spock and M'Benga's Full Name

There's a lot of anticipation right now for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds as it will mark the return of Anson Mount's Christopher Pike after his beloved appearance during the second season of Star Trek: Discovery. The upcoming series will also feature the younger versions of some of the familiar characters from The Original Series as it is set years before James T. Kirk took over as the captain of the USS Enterprise.

Per TrekCore, as we are now weeks away before the series makes its premiere, a new batch of character posters was seen during the ongoing Star Trek: Mission Chicago convention in which they revealed the canonical full name of Spock as "S’chn T’Gain Spock." It's the first time since the franchise's inception that his full name was acknowledged in the canon. M'Benga's full name was also revealed in his poster which is "Dr. Jabilo M’Benga."

The report noted that these names that are now established in the canon didn't come from the writers of the series as they are based on previously existing Star Trek books. Spock's first name came from the 1985 Barbara Hambly novel Ishmael while M'Benga's first name originated from the 2005 Star Trek: Vanguard novel Harbinger.

It's hard to tell why they decided to establish their canonical full name in the franchise during the upcoming series, but it seems like some fans are welcome this new addition to the 50-plus years of history of the two characters. After all, it's just a little change that a lot of fans might accept, especially since they are based on novels.

The series will star Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike, Rebecca Romijn as Number One, Ethan Peck as Science Officer Spock, Jess Bush as Nurse Christine Chapel, Christina Chong as La'an Noonien-Singh, Celia Rose Gooding as Cadet Nyota Uhura, Melissa Navia as Lt. Erica Ortegas, and Babs Olusanmokun as Dr. M'Benga.
