Star Trek: Strange New Worlds recently ended its first season and fans are now looking forward to what they have in store for the second season which has also recently wrapped production. Fortunately, it looks like the series' debut on Paramount+ was a huge success according to a monumental announcement from the streamer.
Screen Rant has reported that Paramount+ announced that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has officially set the record as the most-watched Star Trek series debut in the streamer's history over its first 90 days. It also had an impressive start internationally as it also became one of the top two most-watched original series on Paramount+ in the U.K.
"Over the past six years, Alex Kurtzman and his amazing team have brilliantly created and carefully curated a new Star Trek universe for Paramount+ with five complementary series – each different in tone, style, story and in some cases target audience," said George Cheeks, president and chief executive officer at CBS.
"Each series is a success in its own right, and now the franchise’s newest edition, Strange New Worlds, is earning critical acclaim and delivering notable performance achievements on the service, both domestically and internationally. We look forward to the franchise’s continuing journey on Paramount+ here in the U.S. and globally, where in the case of Strange New Worlds, we’re just getting started."
There are many factors that you can consider why Strange New Worlds was able to achieve such a record. Perhaps the show's episodic structure won over a lot of fans and it made them go back to every episode weekly. There's also the fact that there were returning characters from The Original Series which made them nostalgic about it.
This is a great sign for the viewership numbers of the second season as it shows that it is very likely that it will have continued support since the record is also proof that a lot of audiences really like the show.
