Star Trek: The Next Generation Main Cast Will Reunite in Picard Season 3

The first two seasons of Star Trek: Picard have been a success so far as they gave us a look at Jean-Luc Picard's journey in his later years along with some of the new characters in the franchise. Of course, a lot of fans are wondering if the entire The Next Generation crew will make an appearance at some point in the series. Now, it looks like the moment that we've all been waiting for will finally happen.

As part of the First Contact Day celebration, Paramount+ has announced that the main cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation will be reuniting as LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Jonathan Frakes, Gates McFadden, Marina Sirtis, and Brent Spiner are joining Patrick Stewart in the third and final season of Star Trek: Picard. It is unknown yet if the actors will be appearing as series regulars or show up in a recurring/guest capacity.

You can check the announcement video below:

"I remember watching the premiere of Star Trek: The Next Generation almost 34 years ago with my father like it was yesterday. It was the spark that ignited my love for science fiction," showrunner Terry Matalas said in a statement. "So, it’s most fitting that the story of Jean-Luc Picard ends honoring the beginning, with his dearest and most loyal friends from the U.S.S. Enterprise. It would be an understatement to say that giving these characters a proper send-off is an honor. The entire Star Trek: Picard team and I can’t wait for fans to experience this final, high-stakes, starship-bound adventure in season three!"

While this will be the first time that the entire Next Generation crew will appear together in an official Star Trek project since Star Trek: Nemesis in 2002, Frakes, Sirtis, and Spiner have previously appeared in the first season of Picard as their respective Next Generation character. In addition, Spiner is also currently part of the second season although he is playing a different character. The main cast also had a reunion 13 years when they made guest voice appearances as themselves in an episode of Family Guy.

It is exciting to hear that the main cast is going to reunite in the third season which is something that fans have been waiting for ever since the series was announced. It's also inevitable at this point that they will reunite and it would be curious to see what kind of involvement are they going to have. One thing's for sure is that it will be a wonderful moment and will make the audience nostalgic since it's been so many years ever since the characters were together.
