Stanley Tucci's Career

The 62-year-old started acting at a young age. He debuted in the 1985 John Huston movie Prizzi's Honor, and from there, he began playing different supporting roles.

He was cast in The Daytrippers, Deconstructing Harry, Road to Perdition, and The Terminal.

He then made his directorial debut in the cult comedy Big Night in 1996, which he also co-wrote and starred in.

Tucci is also known as an often collaborator of Meryl Streep, appearing in her movies The Devil Wears Prada and Julie & Julia.

Stanley Tucci's Oral Cancer Diagnosis

Tucci opened up about his oral cancer diagnosis in 2017 with Willie Geist on the April 30 episode of Sunday Sitdown.

He admitted he was terrified after learning he had the disease, especially after his first wife, Kate, died from breast cancer in 2009.

"My late wife and I, we traveled all over the world trying to find a cure for her. So, when I got it, I was completely shocked," he said via Today. "I was terrified, absolutely terrified."

Despite the diagnosis, he was grateful that his cancer hadn't spread to other parts of his body.

However, he still found the treatments "brutal" and "awful," greatly affecting his diet.

"I lost 35 pounds," he revealed. "I couldn't eat. I had a feeding tube for six months, and everything tasted like you know what and smelled like you know what."

Sadly, it took him months to finally eat again and regain his proper taste.

Tucci was grateful to his wife, Felicity, and his sister-in-law, Emily Blunt, for helping him get through that terrible time in his life.

"I was so afraid," Tucci admitted. "But Felicity was very insistent. She was incredible. Still is incredible."
