Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse has been making a lot of rounds amongst critics and the audience and it is now being hailed as one of the best films so far this year and potentially one of the best animated and comic book movies of all time.

Thankfully, a third film is already guaranteed as it is also in production at the same time as the second and a release date has been set for next year which will complete Miles Morales' animated Spider-Verse trilogy.

With the success of the first two films and potentially a similar reception for the third installment next year, fans are wondering whether a fourth film will happen at some point.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller were asked whether a fourth animated film is in the cards following the success of the first two films.

Unfortunately, they shot down the possibility and iterated that the Miles Morales animated films will only be a trilogy that has a beginning, middle, and end. They also stressed the heavy workload of making the three films.

"It is the end of the Miles Morales trilogy so this whole thing is working towards that," she said.

"This is completely its own beginning, middle, and end and Miles starts in one place and ends in another. All the characters have an arc in this film, but that's it for us. We're so tired."

It sounds like their decision is already definitive regarding the future of the Spider-Verse animated films and we won't be expecting a fourth installment despite the box office and critical success that the two films have received so far.

While it might be disappointing to hear that we might not be getting a fourth Miles Morales animated film, there is a likelihood that they will do spinoff projects whether it centers on Gwen Stacy, Jessica Drew, or the other fan-favorite supporting characters.

With hundreds of Spidey-People that exist, there are a lot of possibilities that they can explore in extending the animated universe and it won't be surprising if they'll green light spinoff projects once the trilogy concludes.
