Unlike most comic book movies nowadays, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse does not have any post-credits scenes as the film already ended with a huge cliffhanger that will make the audience look forward to the third film early next year.

While there was really no necessity to have a post-credits scene in the film, some fans are still wondering about its absence and whether they had plans to include it during the earlier stages of production.

As it turns out, the sequel does originally have a post-credits scene and it would have featured the villainous Spot.

In an interview with IndieWire, producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller confirmed that Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse originally had a post-credits scene involving Spot, but they scrapped it since they felt that they needed one after the cliffhanger ending.

Lord explained, "Hard to beat where we left off."

The original post-credits scene was supposed to be a follow-up on a sequence that was also removed in the film where Spot was hanging out at a Spidey villain bair but he can't get a drink as no one was able to notice him.

"And then he finally steals the drink for himself and he pours it down and it all leaks out of his holes," Lord said.

"He’s the dorkiest villain. A great line that Chris wrote, though: ‘Trying to fill a hole in his heart with more holes.’ Not a great method."

In the planned post-credits scene, Spot would have returned to the bar sitting proudly this time around and dispatched all the other baddies that previously made fun of him.

"That was one of my favorite things, seeing this guy get picked on and then come back and, with just a whisper, demolishes every person that comes at him. But you have to have both of those sequences for that to work," head of character animation Alan Hawkins explained.

While it is disappointing that the post-credits scene didn't happen, it is also understandable at the same time since what matters the most at the end is what works for the story of the film and whether it services the character of Spot.

Even if the idea sounds fun, we can also argue that the film could work without it, and they already set up Spot's menacing personality without seeing him attacking other villains in a bar.

Hopefully, we will be able to see the scrapped post-credits scene in the deleted scenes section of the film's Blu-ray release in the future.
