Sonic the Hedgehog: Knuckles Spinoff Series Sets Its Main Cast

Last year, Paramount+ announced that they were working on a Sonic the Hedgehog spinoff series centering on Knuckles with Idris Elba reprising the voice role. However, since then, we haven't heard any news regarding its development and there were doubts about whether it will still move forward.

Fortunately, it looks like the spinoff is finally happening as Variety has reported that the live-action Knuckles series has set its main cast including the return of familiar characters from the first two Sonic the Hedgehog films. They also confirmed that production for the series has started in London.

The report revealed that Adam Pally and Tika Sumpter are also starring in the series reprising their respective roles of Wade Whipple and Maddie from the first two films. In addition, Edi Patterson, Julian Barratt, Scott Mescudi (aka Kid Cudi), and Ellie Taylor are joining the series in recurring roles while Rory McCann will guest star.

The spinoff series will take place between the events of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog 3, which is set to arrive in theaters in December 2024. Jeff Fowler, who directed the first two films, is helming the pilot episode and also executive producing the series.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 screenwriter John Whittington wrote the pilot episodes for the spinoff and also serves as its head writer and executive producer. Brian Schacter and James Madejski are also part of the show's writing team.

Elba, Neal H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, and Toru Nakahara are executive producing the series as well with Paramount Pictures and Sega of America producing. Aside from Fowler, Ged Wright, Brandon Trost, Jorma Taccone, and Carol Banker are also directing the episodes.

This is certainly exciting news for fans since we finally have an update on the project around a year after it was first announced. It is exciting to see what they have in store for Knuckles' solo adventure in the Sonic the Hedgehog movie universe after the events of the sequel.
