The G.I. Joe franchise has basically been dead since Retaliation came out back in 2013, but Hasbro is looking to resurrect the brand with a Snake Eyes spinoff movie. As it turns out, the movie is set to include appearances from other members of the Joe team, and the film has just found its Scarlett.

According to Variety, Samara Weaving (Ready or Not) has been cast in the role of G.I. Joe's first female member Scarlett. We don't have many details of her role yet, but she'll be joining a cast that has Henry Golding as the lead Snake Eyes with Andrew Koji playing Storm Shadow and Ursula Corbero playing The Baroness.

It's also worth noting that Scarlett was originally played by Rachel Nichols in G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra.

By the looks of it, Snake Eyes will be a reboot for the Joe franchise much like what Bumblebee did with Transformers. If anything, this should be a great opportunity for Hasbro to get the film done right, seeing as comic book films are all the rage right now. Combine that with their merchandising and they would have another solid brand on their hands.

Hopefully, Snake Eyes manages to captivate the fans of the original while being a jumping point for new audiences. Maybe it can lead to a full Joe film in the future, but we'll just have to wait and see.

No specific plot has been released for Snake Eyes, but the G.I. Joe spinoff is set to release on Oct. 16, 2020.
