Slam Dunk was originally a sports manga illustrated and written by Takehiko Inoue.
It was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1990 to 1996 and can be collected into 31 tankobon volumes.
Eventually, the manga was adapted into an anime by Toei Animation and aired from 1993 to 1996.
Slam Dunk was famous not only in Japan but also around the world. With this, it is not surprising that its manga sold more than 120 million copies worldwide.
Toei Animation released four films, with the most recent one having been released in December 2022 in Japan.

The First Slam Dunk was released in Japan on December 3, 2022. On its first weekend, the movie earned JPY 1.296 billion (around USD 9.5 million), making it first at the box office.

The First Slam Dunk continues where the anime left off: Shohoku High School fights against Sannoh, a three-time defending champion.
Instead of focusing on Hanamichi Sakuragi, the movie sheds light on Ryota Miyagi's journey to become a great basketball player.
