It will still be a long wait for Shazam! Fury of the Gods but we're learning interesting new things about the highly-anticipated DC Extended Universe sequel. We previously got an awesome behind-the-scenes look at the film and now, Helen Mirren has confirmed a cool detail about one of the new characters who will be introduced in the upcoming movie.
We already know that Helen Mirren is playing one of the villains in Shazam! Fury of the Gods. The Fate of the Furious star was confirmed to play Hespera, a goddess and sister to Lucy Liu's Kalypso. Amazingly, Mirren has confirmed that there is a third sister.
Mirren recently spoke to The Associated Press where she was asked if she is playing the villain in Shazam 2. Interestingly, the F9 star refused to drop any spoilers but somehow confirmed something that people have speculated about for some time now.
"I’m not going to tell you the answer to that. You’re going to have to ascertain for yourself," Mirren said before adding, "I’m a member of three goddesses: Lucy Liu as Kalypso and the third goddess played by Rachel Zegler, who will be a huge star in a very short space of time."
Mirren also admitted that she had fun working with Liu and Zegler as part of a trio.
"So there are three of us together, and that was really a great experience because it’s so infrequent that you get to spend a whole of a movie with two other women. So often you’re the only woman in the cast. Here we were a trio, and that was great. I loved it," Mirren said.
It's interesting that Helen Mirren has confirmed that Rachel Zegler's mysterious character is one of the goddesses. Although there were previous speculations about Zegler's character being Hespera and Kalypso's sister, we have only seen her in scenes with Jack Dylan Grazer's Freddy Freeman.
So does this mean Zegler's goddess is spying on the Shazam family for her sisters? Or is she truly friends with Freddy? We may find out when a trailer is finally released.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods will also star Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, and Djimon Hounsou. The film is scheduled for release on June 2, 2023.
