We already know that the kids in Shazam! have been growing up since they last filmed the DC Extended Universe flick. Interestingly, we'll get to see the young characters being typical teenagers in Shazam! Fury of the Gods. A new image take from the set of the sequel confirms that Freddy Freeman will find romance with a surprise character.
Freddy has always seemed more interested in superheroes and pop culture but it looks like he'll find a new interest in Shazam 2. The set photo features Jack Dylan Grazer filming a scene with the new cast member Rachel Zegler and they are actually sharing a kiss. Check it out here.
It was previously confirmed that Zegler would be joining the cast of Shazam 2 although her role has not been disclosed. On the other hand, her costume in the set photo could confirm that she is playing a goddess or demi-goddess in the highly anticipated DCEU sequel.
There have been speculations that Zegler will portray one of Atlas' daughters. If this is so, she will be sisters with Helen Mirren's Hespera and Lucy Liu's Kalypso. Interestingly, this also means she's one of the villains in Shazam 2.
So why is one of the baddies smooching with Freddy? There is a possibility that Zegler's character will have a change of heart in the film. Needless to say, it would be awesome to see how Freddy could possibly save the day in Fury of the Gods.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods also stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, and Djimon Hounsou. The sequel is currently in production and is scheduled for release on June 2, 2023.
