Shazam 2 Director Clarifies BTS Speculation on Gal Gadot's Scene

As everyone knows now, Gal Got made a surprise cameo appearance near the end of Shazam! Fury of the Gods. It was celebrated by DC fans since it is a huge contrast from the first film where the Henry Cavill version of Superman showed up for a headless cameo as the actor himself wasn't able to shoot the scene.

However, ever since the behind-the-scenes footage from the film started to emerge online, there have been speculations about whether Gadot actually showed up on set to film her scene since fans realized that they used a stand-in actress when they shot the scene with Zachary Levi and the cast.

There are accusations that the production team incorporated the deepfake technology in order to make it look like that Gadot herself was in the scene and the double was replaced with the actress' face in it.

Fortunately, that wasn't the actual case at all since director David. F. Sandberg clarified the speculation online when he explained in response to a tweet that the stand-in actress was used to figure out the coverage once Gadot shows up on set at a later time to film the scene separately.

"We shot the scene with Taylor [Cahill, body double] to figure out what coverage we then needed to get with Gal since she couldn’t make it to Atlanta. It’s also Taylor’s body with the wizards head on it. There is absolutely no deepfaking going on. When you see Gal it’s 100% her," he tweeted.

Sandberg also explained that they used the same method when they shot Superman's cameo in the first film with the expectation that Cavill will film the scene later on. However, as we all know, the latter part did not happen.

He added, "This is the approach we did on Shazam 1 for Superman. Shoot with a double first, then get the required coverage with Cavill. Only the second part never happened on Shazam 1."

This should shoot down any speculation regarding the behind-the-scenes on Gadot's cameo appearance as we now have the guarantee that the actress herself filmed the scene, even though she wasn't in the same room as the other actors.

The method is also not new as several movies in the past have filmed an actor's cameo appearance in a separate schedule from the rest of the cast and used "movie magic" to make it look like they were in the same room together.

In this case, what you saw on the screen was actually Gadot even if she's separate from the other cast members in reality. After all, visual effects technology has come so far to make it all happen and that's always been the greatness of "movie magic."
