There are speculations that the royal family didn't want Prince Harry to break the news about Queen Elizabeth's cancer. So, they allowed another author to share it in his book.

Royal Family Prevented Prince Harry From Breaking The News About Queen Elizabeth's Cancer?

Author Gyles Brandreth claimed in his 2022 book Elizabeth: An Intimate Portrait that the Queen had cancer. It was a surprise to many because the royal didn't announce it.

There is a fan theory that the royal family approved of Brandreth mentioning the Queen's alleged illness to prevent Prince Harry from breaking the news to the public in his upcoming memoir Spare.

Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield, the host of the To Di For Daily podcast, mentioned the fan theory when she appeared on GB News. She considered the royals' alleged move "very intelligent."

"Somebody messaged me today," she began telling TalkTV's Cristo Foufas, Showbiz CheatSheet. "Suggesting that perhaps — because I don't know about you, but I've heard these rumours [sic] about bone marrow cancer for a very long time now — Gyles got permission from the family to include this in his book."

She added that the possible reason was to "ensure that it wasn't breaking news if Harry included it in Spare, which I think is very intelligent."

"I think that that very much could be it," Schofield continued. "Because we've heard the whispers and perhaps the family wanted to control how that information was released."

Queen Elizabeth Had Cancer Before She Died, New Book Claims

Brandreth, a royal confidant and a close friend to Prince Philip, was deemed a credible source. In his book Elizabeth: An Intimate Portrait, he mentioned Queen Elizabeth had cancer. However, he also clarified that he only "heard" about it but did not mention if anyone in the royal household confirmed the alleged health condition.

"I had heard that the Queen had a form of myeloma — bone marrow cancer — which would explain her tiredness and weight loss and those 'mobility issues' we were often told about during the last year or so of her life. The most common symptom of myeloma is bone pain, especially in the pelvis and lower back, and multiple myeloma is a disease that often affects the elderly," he wrote in an extract obtained by Daily Mail.

He added, "Currently, there is no known cure, but treatment — including medicines to help regulate the immune system and drugs that help prevent the weakening of the bones — can reduce the severity of its symptoms and extend the patient's survival by months or two to three years."

Royal commentator and editor at Daily Mirror, Russell Myers, told Today that the news was "sad" and "a bit unsavory." For him, if it were true, it was "certainly not things that we would have published."

The royal family allowing Brandreth to mention the alleged health condition before Prince Harry's bombshell memoir could be a move to blindside the Duke of Sussex, so he would not be the first one to mention the late Queen's illness. Or it could be an attempt to save Prince Harry from criticism based on Myer's response — the revelation was "unsavory" and something that should not be published.
