Riot Games Will Buff VALORANT Agents Phoenix and Cypher

VALORANT fans have been asking to buff Phoenix in Riot's popular tactical shooter game, and it's easy to see why. One of the first Duelists of the FPS is one of the least-played Agents in competitive play, and that's because his abilities are underwhelming compared to other Duelists like Jett, Neon, Raze, Reyna, and Yoru.

The good news is that Riot Games is listening to the community, and the VALORANT developers have confirmed that a buff is coming for Phoenix and Cypher.

The update comes from a recent AMA that a few members of Riot Games conducted on Reddit that's meant to discuss VALORANT Agents and game balancing. The Character Team for VALORANT responded to fans' questions, and they shared interesting insights into the future of the game and its characters.

Some of the most exciting news from the Reddit AMA is that regarding Phoenix and Cypher, two of the first Agents in the game. When asked if there are any plans to buff Phoenix, character producer John Goscicki wrote: "Upfront, yes, we are working on Phoenix, but it is too early for us to talk about details of what it may entail."

Goscicki added, "Right now, we want to take the time to explore everything between number tweaks to to something more. Unfortunately, we do not have a solid ETA on that, and we want to take the time to find the right long term place for Phoenix."

So it looks like fans will have to wait a while before Phoenix gets buffed, and it seems that the same stands for Cypher.

"Cypher is in a similar situation [to Phoenix]. We aren't prepared to share details or dates, but he is definitely on our radar," explained agent designer Jay Watford.

That's assuring to hear that Riot has plans to buff two of the weakest Agents in VALORANT. The counterparts in their Agent classes are just stronger in terms of the effectiveness of their abilities.

In VALORANT, there are four Agent classes: Duelists, Controllers, Initiators, and Sentinels. A fan asked if Riot has any plans to introduce a new class to the game.

"We're definitely open to finding new classes in Valorant, but we want to make sure that those classes are both healthy for the game and contribute to the tactical space in unique and meaningful ways," said Jay Watford. "If/when we find an Agent that expands what's possible and checks those boxes, we wouldn't want them to be restricted to fit into the classes that currently exist."
