Rings of Power Star Discusses the Pressure of Joining Lord of the Rings Franchise

Let's face it: The Lord of the Rings is a huge franchise thanks to J.R.R. Tolkien's masterful storytelling and Peter Jackson's epic film adaptations. With that in mind, those who are joining The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power were thrilled to set foot on Middle-Earth. However, Benjamin Walker also admits that he felt the immense pressure of working on the Amazon Prime series.

Benjamin Walker will play King Gil-galad, the last High King of the Noldor. While speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter star pointed out that anyone who gets to join the franchise needs to take it very seriously.

"I would worry about the actor who's casually walking onto the set of Lord of the Rings, knowing the devotion of the fans and the respect that Tolkien deserves," Walker said. "There's nothing casual about the king of the elves."

He then added that he is happy to be a part of the franchise and is well aware that there is a good reason for all the pressure.

"I love that the fans love it. It's a privilege for us to be welcomed into this Tolkien family, so the pressure's a good thing," Walker said.

There's a good reason why Benjamin Walker feels a lot of pressure. He is playing the High King of the Elves of the West and an important figure in the Silmarillion. As the High King of all Elves, Gil-galad formed the Last Alliance of Elves and Men with the help of his good friend King Elendil. With that in mind, we're expecting to learn even more about Gil-galad when The Rings of Power premieres next month.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will premiere on Amazon Prime on September 2, 2022.
