If you're an avid movie watcher, chances are that you know who Ridley Scott is. The man has proven to be quite a versatile director, making hits like The Martian and Gladiator or trash like Exodus: Gods and Kings. Still, he's an iconic director and has made some things that will live on in history, like the famous Apple 1984 commercial. Fortnite recently decided to parody the 1984 video with their Nineteen Eighty-Fortnite and needless to say, Scott was not impressed.
Scott spoke with IGN about the commercial and revealed that he actually wrote to Epic Games about them. He actually commends them a bit for copying the video shot-for-shot but feels that they wasted the video's original message by simply being about #FreeFortnite rather than some actual problems. Then again, Epic Games has been accused of several problems in the gaming industry so there's that.
"I wrote to them because on the one hand I can be fully complemented by the fact they copied [my commercial] shot for shot. But pity the message is so ordinary when they could have been talking about democracy or more powerful things... And they didn't use it."
This reason, among others, is why so many gamers find it hard to sympathize with Epic Games in their battle to free Fortnite from the clutches of Apple. While they aren't wrong about Apple demanding too much money from developers, the fact that they willingly broke the protocols implemented, expected to be taken off, and had all this material about it releasing right after the removal happened makes the whole thing seem like a publicity stunt.
Fortnite is now available on every gaming system that isn't owned by Apple. Android users can still download the game, they just can't do it through the Play Store anymore.
