Fans of the Resident Evil franchise have waited long enough for Sony Pictures to drop some goodies ahead of its November theatrical release and finally, the production company unveiled the official trailer for the film reboot titled Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City.

The equally spooky and action-packed trailer gives fans a better understanding of how the characters found themselves getting involved in the zombie outbreak in Raccoon City. The trailer also guarantees fans of the Resident Evil video game series that the reboot will have loads of direct-from-the-games references, something that isn't all that surprising considering director Johannes Roberts intended for the film to be more in line with the games.

The film reboot will see the involvement of familiar faces from the gaming universe like Claire Redfield, Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Leon S. Kennedy, and Albert Wesker among others. Check out the full trailer below:

The official synopsis for Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City reads:

Once the booming home of pharmaceutical giant Umbrella Corporation, Raccoon City is now a dying Midwestern town. The company's exodus left the city a wasteland…with great evil brewing below the surface. When that evil is unleashed, the townspeople are forever…changed…and a small group of survivors must work together to uncover the truth behind Umbrella and make it through the night.

In case you weren't aware, Welcome to Raccoon City will draw huge inspiration from the first two Resident Evil games. It will also serve as a reboot to the Resident Evil movies headlined by Milla Jovovich. Now, while it's still a little too early to tell where this all leads, it would be safe to assume that Sony will be giving it a similar treatment to their Spider-Man film Universe so expect a bunch of spinoff projects in the franchise's future.

Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City will hit cinemas on November 24, 2021.
