Resident Evil Cancelled by Netflix After One Season

It looks like the Umbrella Corporation has been defeated. Netflix has officially cancelled Resident Evil after one crazy season. The cancellation was confirmed just six weeks after its premiere last July.

Deadline reports that Netflix has opted not to order a second season of Resident Evil, the action horror series that is loosely based on the popular video game franchise. The news comes just a month and a half after the show's release on July 14, 2022.

So why did Netflix choose not to renew Resident Evil for a second season? The report points out that the drama "did not have a particularly strong showing on Netflix’s Top 10." In addition to that, the streaming giant chooses the shows to renew based on the cost of production versus viewership.

In Resident Evil's case, the series initially did well in viewership. However, audiences were not pleased with what they saw and they made their thoughts clear on social media. Unfortunately, this brought viewership down and led to the show's cancellation.

The cancellation is a disappointment for Resident Evil fans who were expecting a second season. After all, the final episode suggested the arrival of Ada Wong. Unfortunately, we will not be seeing the video game character in the series.

Resident Evil followed twins Jade and Billie Wesker between two timelines, one during their days in New Raccoon City where they discover their father Albert Wesker and Umbrella Corporation's dark secrets, and the second one 14 years in the future, where Jade tries to survive the end of the world.

The series concluded with Billie shooting Jade after capturing Jade's daughter Bea. However, the shot isn't fatal and Jade gets up to watch Billie fly away on a helicopter. The show certainly was ready for a sequel which isn't happening.
