Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon Casts Anthony Hopkins in Key Voice Role

After working in the DCEU and last year's hit zombie heist film Army of the Dead, Zack Snyder now has his eyes on Rebel Moon, a Star Wars-esque science-fiction film that he is making for Netflix. The project has been in production for weeks and now it looks like they have added an award-winning actor to its huge ensemble.

Deadline has reported that Oscar-winning actor Anthony Hopkins has joined the cast of Rebel Moon. He will voice a character named Jimmy, "an impossibly sentient JC1435 mechanized battle robot and one-time defender of the slain King."

He is joining the cast that already includes Sofia Boutella, Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, Ed Skrein, Fra Fee, Cleopatra Coleman, Stuart Martin, Jena Malone, Staz Nair, Corey Stoll, Cary Elwes, Michiel Huisman, Rhian Rees, and Alfonso Herrera.

Rebel Moon is "set in a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy that finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius, then dispatching a young woman (Boutella) with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them make a stand."

Snyder is directing and co-wrote the script with Shay Hatten (Army of the Dead) and Kurt Johnstad (300). He also serves as one of the producers along with his wife Deborah Snyder, Wesley Coller, and Eric Newman.

Hopkins is certainly a great addition to the cast since he is a two-time Oscar winner whose career is still very much active even though he is in his early 80s. The audience knows him for his role as Odin in the MCU and Dr. Hannibal Lecter in films such as The Silence of the Lambs. He recently starred in films such as The Father, Armageddon Time, The Two Popes, and Transformers: The Last Knight. He also starred in the first two seasons of Westworld. It is exciting to see what he will bring in his voice role in the film.
