Raya and the Last Dragon: Kelly Marie Tran Addresses Princesses' Sexuality

There is little doubt that Raya and The Last Dragon is a gorgeous Disney film that highlights the importance of family and friendship. However, there's a different aspect of the movie that people can't stop talking about. So does Raya truly have romantic feelings for Namaari? Kelly Marie Tran has just addressed her character's sexuality.

Tran recently spoke to Vanity Fair to promote the Disney flick and at one point, she revealed that she had her own interpretation of the relationship between the two warrior princesses. While recording, Tran thought that there was "some romantic feelings going on there" and made it a part of Raya and Namaari's interactions.

"I'm obsessed with Namaari and I'm obsessed with Gemma Chan. So I'm really excited you brought this up," Tran confessed.

We can't really blame Tran for her love for Namaari and the actress who provides the character's voice. The warrior princess is portrayed as a strong woman who is prepared to do anything to protect her tribe.

Tran isn't the only one who felt that tension between Raya and Namaari. Fans have been gushing about the two characters on social media, hoping that their relationship can be explored in a possible sequel.

Raya isn't the first Disney princess whose sexuality has been questioned. People have previously pointed out that Elsa may have been gay due to the lack of a male love interest in the Frozen films. Although Elsa's sexuality was not explained further, it's refreshing to know that Tran agrees that it might be time for an LGBTQ+ Disney princess.

Raya and The Last Dragon is currently screening in selected theaters and is available on Disney+ with Premier Access.
