Quentin Tarantino Star Trek Spin-Off Still Underway

An exclusive report from Deadline has confirmed that Noah Hawley is set to direct a Star Trek film, which in turn has left fans in a buzz as to whether or not the longstanding rumor of a Quentin Tarantino directed spin-off will ever see the light of day.

The rumor has been going around as early as 2017 and according to the same report, Paramount Pictures is working with a separate studio for the spin-off. Given that it is to be directed by Tarantino, the film is expected to carry an R rating and will have its screenplay penned by The Revenant writer Mark L. Smith.

In a separate interview with RadioTimes.com, franchise veteran George Takei who played Sulu in the original TV series shared his interest in a Tarantino-helmed film.

"It would be intriguing," the actor said. "I mean it would not be a fit because he has his own singular style. But we've had other directors who have had singular styles, and if he understands Star Trek and wants to do it I'm curious – and I'd like to see him have a crack at it."

It would be intriguing, indeed. Quentin Tarantino has made a name for himself with films like Kill Bill, Inglorious Basterds, and cult-classic Pulp Fiction. To see what would be his take on a sci-fi film like Star Trek would be more than interesting.

Paramount has yet to announce a release date for this unnamed fourth Star Trek film, but it will be Hawley's second film following his directorial debut with Lucy in the Sky.
