Queen Elizabeth has skipped several engagements in the past months due to her mobility problems. A new report claims her role was changed, and an anti-monarchy group immediately reacted by slamming Her Majesty.

Queen Elizabeth Slammed And Advised To Step Down

The 96-year-old British monarch is still in her peak health, with the palace saying her only problem is her mobility. However, her official duties were scaled back after over a decade which raised the eyebrows of the anti-monarchy organization, Republic, Express reported.

The outlet noted that the Queen's responsibilities as the head of the monarchy were previously listed in bullet points, but it had been changed to "a range of parliamentary and diplomatic duties."

Republic believed it was updated for the Queen's convenience. The British monarch had skipped several engagements in the past months, including the State Opening of Parliament, which was reportedly previously considered necessary by "constitutional convention." She only missed it two times in her 70-year reign.

"Absolute disgrace. The head of state changes our constitution to suit her changing needs? If the Queen is unable to carry on, she should step down.

#AbolishTheMonarchy," Republic tweeted.

Queen Elizabeth Called To Abdicate To Save Monarchy

Republic is not the only one who wants the Queen to step down or abdicate her royal duties. News.com.au's royal correspondent and commentator Daniela Elser also believed that abdicating the throne is best for the monarchy instead of her keeping on skipping her duties.

According to Elser, the Queen's absence will only give the monarchy a  "symbolism of a sovereign who is largely invisible and tucked away from view." She believed that Queen Elizabeth reassigning her responsibilities to other senior royals when her presence is expected would only give the institution an impression of being weak and uncertain instead of "projecting strength and continuity."

Meanwhile, the royal expert believed that passing the crown to Prince Charles while the Queen is still alive would help the heir apparent's popularity and reign.

"If the Queen was to pass the baton, or the Imperial State Crown in fact, to her 73-year-old son, it would start his reign on a totally different note, one of positivity and joy and with him ruling with her blessing – not out of necessity," Elser said. "In this scenario, when Her Majesty did sadly pass away, it would hugely mitigate the upheaval and psychological trauma which her death will trigger in the UK and the Commonwealth."
