There is no question that Queen Elizabeth II is the longest-reigning monarch and the most beloved. She wanted the people to show the same support to her son.

"When, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes King, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me; and it is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service," she wrote.

"I look forward to continuing to serve you with all my heart, I hope this Jubilee will bring together families and friends, neighbors and communities – after some difficult times for so many of us – in order to enjoy the celebrations and to reflect on the positive developments in our day-to-day lives that have so happily coincided with my reign," she continued.

Prince Charles was thankful to his mom for her decision to give the title to Camilla. In a statement released on Instagram, the Prince of Wales congratulated Her Majesty and said he was "deeply conscious" that his mother decided to honor his "darling wife" Camilla, who "has been my own steadfast support throughout."

Twitter Users React To Queen Elizabeth II's Decision To Make Camilla Queen Consort

Meanwhile, the netizens have mixed opinions about the Queen's decision. Some approved of it while others argued.

"She doesn’t deserve that title! I’m from across the pond and what Camilla did to Princess Di should completely disqualify her from holding the title. Princess Di will be forever the princess/queen!" one tweeted.

"NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NEVER NEVER. NO. Charles DESTROYED Diana. She was supposed to be THE QUEEN. Even if Camila was the 1st chosen, WE don’t like/ except her. NO. Monarchy will lose OUR APPROVAL. We will stand alone or maybe NOT AT ALL. NO Camila," another unhappy netizen wrote.

Many also supported Camilla. Some of Princess Diana's fans approved of the decision because they believed the Duchess of Cornwall earned it with her service.

"It is Camilla's right to be called Queen (and I'm a huge Diana fan)," one wrote.

"@danwootton I hear you. But not to give Camilla her rightful title as the legal wife of a king would dilute his status as king and the status of the monarchy," royal biographer Robert Jobson replied to Dan Wootton, British journalist, broadcaster, and the executive editor of The Sun, who didn't like Camilla to earn the title. "Camilla has served Queen and Country for 17 years now. She has to be Queen Consort. Princess Consort would be a cop out."
