Queen Elizabeth is the most popular royal at present. However, the people may have pity voted for her, according to one correspondent.

Queen Elizabeth Received 'Pity Vote' In Recent Poll?

A new poll weighing the popularity of the royal family by YouGov was released ahead of the Platinum Jubilee celebration. It was carried out on 1,692 adult Britons between May 18 and 19, Express reported.

The results showed that Queen Elizabeth was the most popular among the members of the firm. The 96-year-old monarch received 69 points.

Prince William and Kate Middleton came in the second and third spot, with 59 and 55 points, respectively. Prince Charles got 19 points, while his wife, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, had 9 points.

On the other hand, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's popularity slumped further. The Duke of Sussex received -26 points while the Duchess of Sussex had -42. Prince Harry dropped by a point while Meghan Markle slipped three points further.

However, Bianca Stone, Qld Correspondent for Sunrise, speculated that the public probably just voted for the Queen because she's celebrating her 70 years on the throne and possibly because she's old and maybe gone soon.

It was a "pity vote for the Queen," Stone said.

"I think it's because everyone secretly loves Harry and Meghan. Who needs Netflix when you've got Harry and Meghan?" she continued. "It's the Jubilee, it's all about Queenie. Seventy years on the throne, everyone's like 'Let's just look, she hasn't got long to go, let's just pump her up and make her feel good. She'll be gone soon.'"

Queen Elizabeth Is Making A Public Appearance This Week

Queen Elizabeth will mark the Platinum Jubilee on Thursday by making a balcony appearance during Trooping the Colour. She will be accompanied by the working royals, including Prince Charles, Camilla, Prince William, Kate Middleton, Princess Anne, Prince Edward, and Sophie, Countess of Sussex.

Her Majesty has a mobility problem and is not expected to attend all the events for the jubilee celebration. However, she is determined to make the balcony appearance, and her fans are also expecting to see her.

However, one fan wanted to see her earlier. A man was arrested after trespassing on the grounds of Buckingham Palace Sunday, PA reported.

Connor Attridge, 28, breached the security by entering the vehicle gate of the Royal Mews when it opened for an authorized car.

"I want to come in. I want to see the Queen," he said when he was ushered out of the gate.

Daniel Mullin, Attridge's lawyer, explained that he suffered from mental illness and had "no motive or desire to go further than he did."

The Queen was not at Buckingham Palace when it happened. She has been staying at Windsor Castle since 2020. However, she traveled to Scotland and stayed in her Balmoral estate over the weekend for a "short break."

She returned to Windsor Tuesday ahead of the festivity for the Platinum Jubilee.
