Queen Elizabeth had the opportunity to meet her great-granddaughter, Lilibet Diana, during the latter’s trip to the United Kingdom earlier this month. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle traveled thousands of miles from the United States to attend the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. And they also took Archie and Lilibet with them.
Prince Harry and Markle’s children spent some time with Queen Elizabeth during their visit. But no photos of Her Majesty with Archie and Lilibet were released to the public following their meeting.
Sources also revealed that the Queen skipped Lilibet’s first birthday celebration at Clarence House. And the monarch didn’t also spend as much time with Archie and Lilibet as royal fans would’ve wanted.
Queen Elizabeth Did Not Snub Lilibet, Prince Harry, Meghan Markle
However, royal expert Jonathan Sacerdoti was quick to defend the Queen amid allegations that she somehow snubbed her great-grandchildren and the Sussexes during their visit. He said that the Queen is already 96 years old, and she managed to give Lilibet very little time because she had to reserve her energy for the Platinum Jubilee.
“[She] was working very hard to maintain her strength. I think it’s totally understandable that she was saving her energy as best she could for all the events that she wanted to be at if she possibly could,” he told Us Weekly.
Earlier this month, reports swirled that the Sussexes only had less than an hour with the Queen when they visited her at Windsor Castle. This allegedly signified that the tensions between the Sussexes and the royal family are still high.
However, Sacerdoti explained that this isn’t necessarily the case. After all, the public is talking about the 96-year-old monarch and her 1-year-old great-granddaughter. So, this doesn’t have any connection with the issues between the Sussexes and the Cambridges.
Rather, the Queen wanted to preserve her energy so that she could attend as many events as she could during her Platinum Jubilee. Unfortunately, she wasn’t able to do so because she experienced some discomfort following the Trooping the Colour.
Prince William And Kate Middleton Didn’t Introduce Their Children To Lilibet
Other than the Queen, other members of the royal family were also accused of snubbing Lilibet. According to Cosmopolitan, Prince William and Kate Middleton made no effort to introduce their three children to their cousin.
“William and Kate made no effort at all to introduce Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis to [Lili]. There is still a lot of tension between the couples and that as far as I know, nobody believes they spoke to one another,” he said (via Cosmopolitan).
Prince William and Middleton also skipped Lilibet’s first birthday celebration. However, the couple and their children had a valid reason for not being there. All five of them traveled to Wales for a royal outing.
“It was purely coincidental. Harry is coming back to visit soon and hopes to see William in person. They are trying to figure things out. Harry and Meghan had a wonderful time seeing the Queen again. It was one of the biggest highlights of their year so far,” a source said.
