Queen Elizabeth always wanted the best for Prince Harry. Her Majesty reportedly wanted the best for her grandson even after he left the royal family.

Queen Elizabeth Hoped Prince Harry Would 'Find His Feet' In California, According To A Book

Queen Elizabeth and Prince Harry had always shared a warm relationship. Her Majesty also chose to support his decision to step back from his royal duties and relocate to the United States after he married Meghan Markle.

Brandreth examined the grandmother and grandson's relationship in his new book Elizabeth: An Intimate Portrait. According to him, the late monarch "was anxious that Harry should 'find his feet' in California and 'find really useful things to do'" there, Showbiz CheatSheet reported.

However, his grandfather, Prince Philip, who was Bradreth's friend for 40 years, was reportedly not as supportive of Megxit. Brandreth claimed in his book that the late Duke of Edinburgh believed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were not doing the right thing when they abandoned their royal duties for a new life in California.

"It's a big mistake to think about yourself… If you think it's all about you, you'll never be happy," Prince Philip confided, Daily Mail reported.

Is Prince Harry Queen Elizabeth's Favorite Grandson?

Due to the Queen and Prince Harry's tight bond, many were convinced that he was her favorite grandson. Some experts were even convinced that King Charles' mother was closer to his youngest son than the heir to the throne.

According to E! News royal correspondent Melanie Bromley Prince Harry and the Queen enjoyed a more "fun" relationship compared to Prince William.

"William is going to become king, so there has been a very close relationship between William and the Queen. It's half family and half business," Bromley told News Corp Australia.

Prince Harry also talked fondly about the Queen. In April's interview with Today for the Invictus Games, he said he wanted to protect the Queen, which raised eyebrows because the Queen had King Charles and Prince William at her disposal. When he made racist allegations against the royal family, he also clarified the royal who allegedly raised concern over their son's skin color was neither his grandmother Queen Elizabeth nor his grandfather Prince Philip.

Despite that, royal biographer Ingrid Seward said that the Queen's favorite grandson is not Prince Harry. Her Majesty was reportedly closer to Princess Anne's children.

"I think the Queen is closest to Zara and Peter as they were her first grandchildren and have always been the favourites," Seward said. "She's at her most relaxed around them; as a child she used to give Zara a smack around the legs when she was naughty, which was frequently."
