Earlier this week, Buckingham Palace announced that Queen Elizabeth II tested positive for COVID-19. It seems that one outlet has taken things further by reporting that the Queen is already dead.
Hollywood Unlocked posted "exclusive news" claiming that Queen Elizabeth II passed away on Tuesday. It cited unnamed sources close to the royal family who confirmed the news.
The report stirred the netizens with many wondering if it was true or not. Jason Lee, the blog founder of Hollywood Unlocked, doubled down the report on Twitter.
"We don’t post lies and I always stand by my sources. Waiting for an official statement from the palace," he wrote.
After several hours, he took to Twitter again and denied the claims that Hollywood Unlocked retracted its story. He once again doubled down the claim that they are standing by its story.
"Woke up to some fake account posting a retraction. We do not know that account and we have not retracted our story. There has yet to be an official statement from the Palace. Staying tuned," he added.
Twitter Users React To Queen Elizabeth Is Dead Story
Jason Lee's tweets received mixed responses from the netizens. Many did not believe it because there was no confirmation from Buckingham Palace. Also, there is a certain protocol to follow for how the news will be disseminated if it were true. Some also believed that a more reputable outlet would have reported if it were true.
"I'm literally in the UK. When the Monarch passes on overnight, its announced to the public the next day via BBC at either 8am or 12 noon. As its now 3:10pm in the UK, I can confirm that you're wrong," one netizen commented.

"You keep waiting for that palace statement, mate," Shayan Sardarizadeh, a journalist at BBC World wrote suggesting that there will be no announcement because the Queen is not dead.
Another questioned Lee's lack of an official source. Some also laughed at him for doubling down the claim still without naming his source. Others warned him that he might be sued for the report. Journalist Caroline Feraday said claiming one is dead when they are not is "a very straightforward defamation."

However, some netizens also believed the story despite the lack of evidence.
"This story is probably true, but not that they’ve been exposed, they’ll likely cover it up. After they announce it, they’ll change to a more recent date just so Jason can be wrong. Otherwise, where is she???" one commented.
"We definitely need proof of life if it isn’t true," another added.
